Maybe I’m tired, maybe I’m frustrated, or maybe I’m really angry… however I’m feeling, you can see that I’m having a really big tantrum! Remember that when I’m extremely upset, it isn’t possible for me to control my emotions or my crying, I will need your help calming. Be firm but supportive, especially if I’m tantrumming because you told me no. Try to address what you think I am feeling instead of the behavior. If I really need it, it’s okay to give me a few minutes of quiet time so that I can work to regulate my big emotions. My brain isn’t ready yet to reflect on why I was so upset, but this will give me a safe place to calm down.
