My feelings are one of the hardest things for me to manage. That’s because I don’t understand why I feel the way I feel, and I don’t yet know what these feelings are even called! One of the most important things you can do is to teach me that all of my feelings are okay. If I’m crying, tell me that it’s okay that I’m feeling sad. When I throw a tantrum, tell me that it’s hard to feel angry and frustrated. When I’m smiling, tell me that my smile shows you that I’m happy! When you give me the language to understand what feelings are and the support that all of my feelings are okay, you give me my first tools to understand and manage my feelings as I get older.
