Both of my parents are different, so it makes sense that I have unique experiences with each of you. This exposes me to a variety of perspectives, and I get to learn and do different things. It’s important that you feel comfortable with me, and part of that means figuring out what works for you and me throughout our daily routine. You get to decide how to relate to me and care for me, you don’t have to do things exactly the same way my other parent does. You get to decide if you want to talk or sing to me while you change my diaper (or maybe I’ll let you know which I prefer). You get to figure out how you’ll help me settle down when I’m upset and what works best for us when we play together. When you are genuinely engaged with me, we’ll both feel more comfortable and confident. Even if you’re far away sometimes, you can still be part of my days. You have so much to teach me and I love getting to know you each day.
